Nor'easters win slugfest with Bison, 7-5

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Freshman Oliver Arnberg picked up his first-career hat trick in Nichols College's 7-5 loss to the University of New England Saturday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Harry Alfond Forum.
Sophomore J.B. Baker notched four points on the evening (1-3-4) and both sophomore David Chevrier and freshman Filip Virgili collected two assists for the Bison. Senior netminder Colin Brennan turned aside 40 shots as NC was outshot 47-26 on the evening. The team's also combined for 139 penalty minutes.
Sophomore Ryan Bloom registered a hat trick for the Nor'easters while junior Brady Fleurent tallied three points (1-2-3) and sophomore Liam Neuman had two assists. Freshman netminder Ben Churchfield made 21 saves to earn his second win in as many nights.
UNE held a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes as senior D.J. Goldstein potted his first goal of the season for Nichols. Fleurent's first of the season 2:10 into the second pushed the lead to 3-1 before goals from Baker and Arnberg less than six minutes apart tied the contest at three. Baker's short-handed marker – a redirection of a shot from Chevrier – was the first of the season for the Bison.
The Nor'easters scored the next three goals and chased Brennan from the net, but two goals from Arnberg 1:50 apart in the third brought the Bison back to within one at 6-5. Brennan then returned to the net but was tagged for one more goal at 15:15 as Fleurent picked up his second of the contest.
Nichols closed the evening 2-for-5 on the PP while UNE went 1-for-5.
