ADRIAN, Mich.--The Norfolk, Va.-based Admirals of the ECHL added a pair of players on Wednesday, signing forward Taylor McCloy and goaltender Dillon Kelley. Both players join the Admirals after finishing their college careers at Adrian College, joining forward Mathew Thompson (Indy Fuel, ECHL) as Bulldog hockey players from the 2018 senior class to play professionally this spring.
McCloy, 24, led the Bulldogs during his senior season with career highs in points (38) and goals (24). The forward's 24 goals were also third best in the nation at the NCAA Division III level. The Keswick, Ontario, product, who was an alternate captain during his final two seasons, recorded 110 points for 14th all-time (51g, 59a) in 99 games at Adrian. Prior to attending Adrian, McCloy spent three seasons with the Aurora Tigers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League where he netted 142 points (68g, 74a) in 159 games. The forward has joined the Admirals on an Amateur Tryout (ATO) contract. McCloy capped his AC career with CCM All-America Third Team honors from the American Hockey Coaches Association.
Kelley, 23, appeared in 11 games for Adrian this past season going 7-1-0, while surrendering only 1.20 goals per game and posting a save percentage of .949. A Petoskey High School graduate, the netminder appeared in 24 career games with the Bulldogs, losing only twice (16-2, 1.71 GAA, .924 SV%). He lists fifth in team history with 390 saves. The 6-foot-5, 214-pound goaltender played four seasons in the North American Hockey League with the Corpus Christi IceRays, Austin Bruins, and Michigan Warriors before heading to Adrian.
Both players will be available for the Admirals final two games of against Reading on April 6 and 7.
Thompson, 24, signed an ATO contract last month and has since scored two goals and three assists for five total points in five games with the Fuel, who are an affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks. As a senior, the two-year Adrian team captain finishing second in Bulldogs scoring with 34 points (16g, 18a) in 30 games while helping AC reach the NCAA quarterfinals after their fourth-straight Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Peters Cup regular-season title. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound forward was named the 2017-18 NCHA Player of the Year and CCM All-America First Team member. He completed his Adrian tenure at over a point-per-game pace, logging 61 goals, 67 assists and 128 points--10th on the AC all-time chart--and a plus-69 rating in 105 total games.
A product of Bolton, Ontario, Thompson spent two seasons in the OJHL prior to his collegiate career, tallying 102 points (36g, 66a) in 98 games split between the Trenton Golden Hawks and the Orangeville Flyers.
In other pro Bulldog news, Chris Leone, Austin Hervey and Josh Cousineau continue to skate for their professional teams the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL), Knoxville Ice Bears (Southern Professional Hockey League) and Pensacola Ice Flyers (SPHL). Leone has produced 5+16=21 scoring totals in 68 games with the Cyclones, Hervey has posted 12 goals and 27 points in 53 contests for the Ice Bears, and Cousineau has 13 assists among 22 points in 43 outings with the Ice Flyers.
All told, Bulldog Hockey has produced 17 players that have signed professional contracts to compete at the next level since the NCAA program was established for the 2007-08 campaign.
