King's Women's Ice Hockey Falls to Third-Ranked Elmira to Wrap Up Weekend Series

PITTSTON -- The Elmira College women's ice hockey team lived up to its lofty number-three national ranking as the visiting Soaring Eagles posted an 11-0 victory over first-year King's College Sunday at Revolution Ice in Pittston.

With the win, Elmira improved to 3-0 and 2-0 in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference. King's, meanwhile, slipped to 0-4 and 0-2 in the UCHC.

Elmira opened the scoring with 7:58 left in the first period when Rachel Grampp scored off an assist from Devyn Gilman The Soaring Eagles added a second goal with 3:00 remaining in the frame when Tristen Tolan struck net off of assists from Jessica Adams and Gilman to give Elmira a 2-0 lead after one period.

But the Soaring Eagles broke the game open in the second period when Maddy Jerolman scored just 0:41 into the frame to ignite a six-goal onslaught for Elmira to push the score to 8-0 heading into the third an final period.

Elmira added three more goals in the third period to walk away with the victory.

Tolen and Shannon Strawinski both had two goals and one assist while Meghan Monfara added two goals to pace the Elmira attack.

Elmira outshot King's 70-3 in the game and won 35 of the 61 faceoffs.

King's starting goalie Emma Zeveney made 36 saves and allowed four goals. Brittany Rose made five stops and yielded four goals while Anna Monsrud played the third period and made 18 saves while allowing three goals.

King's will next play an away-home series with Lebanon Valley College, On Saturday King's travels to Annville to face the Flying Dutchwomen at 2:00 PM. The Lady Monarchs then return home Sunday to face Lebanon Valley at 3:00 PM at Revolution Ice.
