King’s Women’s Ice Hockey Falls to Nationally Ranked Elmira

PITTSON, Pa - Freshman goalkeeper Kiva Sierra Stoltz had a career night with 73 saves as the Lady Monarchs fell 9-0 to third-ranked Elmira Saturday afternoon.

King's falls to 0-3 while the Soaring Eagles move to 2-0.

Elmira showed its force, taking 29 shots in the opening period. Stoltz was able to stay strong in the net with 26 saves, but the relentless Soaring Eagles offensive managed to score six minutes into the contest. The Lady Monarchs' defense managed to keep the game 1-0 until a pair of powerplay goals gave Elmira the 3-0 lead going into the second period.

King's was able to stay competitive in the second, but the nationally-ranked Soaring Eagles scored at the 6:44 mark off an unassisted Kiana Melvin goal. Elmira scored again at 16:09 when Katie Granoto found the back of the net.

The Elmira offense did not let up in the final period, tacking on four more goals to go up 9-0. Stoltz was able to add 19 more saves to her total by the end of the period.

King's will be back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. for a home rematch against Elmira.
