Sheehan hat trick powers UNE past Plymouth St. 5-2

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Julianne Sheehan recorded her first-career hat trick to lead the University of New England women's ice hockey team over Plymouth State 5-2 on Saturday afternoon. The senior has now tallied multiple goals in three of the last five games and leads the Nor'easters (12-2-1) and Colonial Hockey Conference with 12 on the year.

Sheehan scored twice in the opening period, first off a pass from Kenady Nevicosi at the 8:01 mark. Tatum Gietl found her on a power-play late to give UNE a 2-0 advantage.

Plymouth State (2-7-3) trimmed the deficit to 2-1 as Kelsey Roy scored in the open minutes of the second.

Gietl connected with Sheehan for her third goal to start the third period. Alex Mitchell and Gietl added goals to push the lead to 5-1. Brooke Maggy put in the final score for the Panthers.

UNE once again dominated with a 47-24 advantage in shots. Julia Benjamin made 22 saves for the visitors. Gabbie Igo turned away 42 shots for Plymouth State in her first start of the year.

The Nor'easters return home on Friday to begin a weekend series with Suffolk. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
